Water is the source of life and also the source of hope. In Dayao, Yunnan Province, a water supply project that affects the livelihood of 23,000 people is quietly transforming the history of relying on nature for water supply among the mountains.
Recently, 13 prefabricated water tank reservoirs were officially completed in Dayao County, Yunnan Province. To address the challenges posed by the region’s abundance of stone and scarcity of soil, as well as restricted construction conditions, the project was adapted to include 3 20m³ and 9 52m³ reservoirs, with a total water storage capacity exceeding 500 cubic meters.
The water tank’s reservoir has been certified by the Ministry of Water Resources for the promotion of advanced and practical technologies. It utilizes high-quality hot-dipped galvanized corrugated steel plates from Baosteel and pure material PVC high-polymer anti-seepage inner liners. This high-standard configuration has enabled the construction of a robust “Water Great Wall” in mountainous regions. Nearly 23,000 people will finally bid farewell to the dire situation of “using water for three purposes” and enjoy a secure life where water can be stored during rainy seasons and used during dry seasons.
01. Why “Water Tank”? – Three Key Core Advantages
● Building with modular blocks: A water tank can be constructed in just one day. All components are factory-prefabricated and can be installed on-site directly. A 52-cubic-meter storage tank can be installed by just three workers in one day, marking a 80% reduction in construction time compared to traditional cement tanks. This method is particularly suitable for mountainous areas with limited access.
● Structural performance exceeds national standards: safety margin is 1.3 times higher: The structural safety margin exceeds the national steel structure standard by 1.3 times. This has been verified through simulations using ABAQUS and ANSYS finite element software. The circumferential stress and wind load resistance both exhibit sufficient safety factors, providing reliable protection in high-altitude and mountainous regions.
● Environmentally friendly and suitable for reclamation: does not occupy permanent farmland. Water tank/reservoir can be easily disassembled and relocated. If the site needs to be changed, it can be quickly dismantled, and the steel can be recycled. The original site can be easily reclaimed without leaving any construction waste.
02. From “Relying on Nature for Water” to “Water Seamlessly Flows”
In the past, villagers in Dayao County often had to walk several kilometers through mountainous terrain to fetch water, or relied on rooftop rain collection and small water storage tanks, which made it difficult to ensure both water quality and quantity. Today, the 13 water tank reservoirs have brought about a fundamental change:
● Reliable water supply: Water is efficiently collected and stored during the rainy season, and then directly supplied to villagers’ homes through pipes during the dry season, allowing for flexible allocation of water resources between the rainy and dry seasons.
● Water Quality Assurance: The high-molecular-weight PVC inner tank meets the safety standards for potable water. The top cover design effectively prevents leaves and sediment from entering the tank, thereby preventing secondary pollution at its source.
● Hope for the industry: Stable water sources provide a foundation for developing courtyard economies and specialty farming, thereby stimulating the internal drive of rural areas.
